![]() Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS data) is used to calculate a rate by population for postcodes and local government areas. On 29 January 2020, the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2019 were amended to add Novel Coronavirus 2019 to the list of notifiable conditions in Schedule 3 and 5 requiring notification by medical practitioners and pathology services as soon as practicable. The aim is to protect the health and safety of the community. The law exists to monitor and control the occurrence of infectious diseases and other medical conditions, and helps to prevent further illness. Under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2009, the department is authorised by law to collect information from doctors and laboratories about diagnoses of certain health-related conditions in Victoria. The department sources this data through contact tracing and management of the COVID-19 outbreak. You should not use the maps to decide to travel or shop in an area that may appear to have lower cases level of COVID-19. The current cases maps don't necessarily reflect where the person caught COVID-19. While positive cases are notified on the same day, there can be a lag in providing some negative results, which causes the need for adjustment.Įvents are counted in the Victorian data set if the case is being managed in Victoria. That data is continuously cleaned and processed which includes the removal of duplication and allocating cases to the date of test, rather than the date of notification to the department. The daily media conference number represents results provided to the department in the previous 24 hour period to midnight. Analysis in this report is based on the date on which the event was first received by the department. It may change as more information becomes available. Interpreting dataĭata presented in this report is updated daily. When a case occurs in a new postcode it is included in the postcodes download and identified under the relevant new postcode number. When a case requires review and confirmation it is included in the local government area data under the heading 'other' and the postcode 9999 is displayed in the postcode data. Some cases may occur in new postcodes and so cannot be added to the map. We use 2016 ABS data for Australian postcodes and population statistics. The maps on the website include probable cases from positive rapid antigen tests. Some postcode and local government information requires follow up and confirmation with a confirmed case and so is not added to the map until this process is completed by our Public Health team. Statewide case numbers are subject to change as cases are reviewed and reclassified. We use the most up to date data available to update these maps each day. Information about mapsĭata on the map is presented by local government area and postcode. In the event that a case is detected and a residential postcode is not available a post code of 3999 is used. Postcode of the case does not reflect where a person was infected. It may not be where the case currently resides (for example they might be in a hospital). Residential location is the address provided by a person during contact tracing. A small number of cases that are not contactable are considered to have recovered after 28 days from diagnoses. The total numbers of cases refers to the number of confirmed cases and probable cases.Īn active case is someone who has tested positive and is currently in isolation. A probable case is a person who has a positive rapid antigen test. Information about the dataĪ confirmed case is a person who has a positive laboratory test for COVID-19. It is the most accurate data available to the Department of Health and Human Services at the time of publication. This is an interactive daily report of COVID-19 in Victoria.
